22 Stunning Photos of the Pyramids of Giza

Visiting The Pyramids in Giza was an incredible experience for me. This was always on my life’s “bucket list” and when I finally experienced it, all my future travels have been – and still are – compared to this truly unique experience!

First arriving in Alexandria (very north of Egypt / Africa), I took a three-hour drive south east to get to Cairo.

I wept as I stood in front of The Great Pyramid. Overwhelmed with the magnificence, I couldn’t help myself but to weep as I drank in the effect of seeing The Great Pyramid before my eyes.

Visiting the pyramids, I walked around and up close as much as possible. There were hundreds – possibly thousands – of other tourists walking around, as well.

There were a few armed guards on camels, making certain these wonders of the world are not damaged by inquisitive (or destructive) tourists.

I saw how the limestone blocks were arranged, and simply overwhelmed with the idea of how much manpower was involved in the making of the pyramids.

Located near Cairo, The Pyramids of Giza are one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

These mausoleums were built to show the ancient Egyptians’ belief in eternal life. They contained the Pharaoh’s tomb, but were also storage places for treasures and solar baroques (boats for transport in the afterlife). You can actually go inside the large Pyramid of Cheops, built of about 2.5 million limestone blocks.
