Dear Michelle Valentine,

My husband left a year and a half ago after a twenty-five year marriage. He is the only person I have ever dated and been with.

I don’t know how to start my life over.

I have become very lonely and am still very upset over my divorce. I just can’t seem to get over what has happened to me.

How do I meet other singles that are lonely like me?

I have gone back to finish my college education, but despite school and my job, I am very unhappy.

I watch your TV talk show every week and I went to see you speak at Barnes & Noble (Booksellers). I respect your advice.

How to Start Over

Dear Starting Over,

Thank you for watching the TV Show and attending my seminar! By doing things such as there, you are helping yourself towards coping with being (unhappily) single.

Although a year and a half is a hefty amount of time for you to not be over the divorce yet, I do congratulate you for guiding yourself towards a new and brighter life by continuing your education.

You seem to be an ambitious, loyal, and outgoing person and are taking the right steps towards a new beginning. You must realize one important factor, though, that I think you may be missing the point on: You are letting other persons see the unhappy side of your life.

Remember that no one wants to be around an unhappy person!

Let those wonderful qualities of yours shine through when meeting new persons.

Keep a positive disposition.

When talking to new persons you meet, talk only about the HAPPY things going on in your life. Keep attending courses and singles events – wearing a beautiful dress and a big smile, too!
