Due to its remote location, the forest contains many endangered and rare animal and plant species. In July 1908, the Alexander Archipelago Forest Reserve and the Tongass National Forest Park, created in Roosevelt’s presidential declaration, merged to form a forest covering most of southeastern Alaska.

The forest is adjacent to the Alexander Archipelago, Fjords and glaciers, and peaks of the Coast Mountains. Different views of nature can be seen. We flew via helicopter over this forest to get to the Mendenhall Glacier. The cost of helicopter ride ranges from $200 to $1,500, depending on the duration of the helicopter’s flight.
