I am not a wine connoisseur. I am simply someone who enjoys sharing a good bottle of wine with friends, family, and a delicious meal. That is exactly what I liked about Tango Real’s 2007 Syrah from Mendoza, Argentina.

I first enjoyed this wine at Cork & Olive in Lake Mary, Florida, while visiting with Juan Pombo of Tango Real, the U.S. operation for Goyenechea Winery and Vineyards. Founded in 1868, the winery is based in Mendoza, Argentina, one of the country’s best-known wine regions.

According to Juan, this wine is made with 100% Syrah grapes grown in Tango Real’s own vineyards near the small village of Villa Atuel in the southern part of the San Rafael region. The area sits near the Andes Mountains, whose snow-capped peaks help provide water for the vineyards.

In the glass, the wine has a medium red color with ruby hues. I found it soft, fruity, smooth, and very easy to drink. It has aromas of red and dried fruit, followed by mild tannins and a pleasant finish that lingers just enough.

This is the kind of red wine I would enjoy serving when friends come over because it feels approachable, relaxed, and easy to pair with food. It would be lovely alongside pasta, a light meat dish, a cheese board, or an intimate dinner for two.

While visiting Cork & Olive, I spoke with another wine lover who shared that she brought a bottle of Tango Real Syrah when meeting her boyfriend’s parents for the first time. She said they enjoyed it, and it became a natural conversation starter at dinner.

For me, Tango Real’s 2007 Syrah is a smooth, uncomplicated wine that is easy to enjoy and even easier to share.
