Travel Tips:

Plan to arrive early in the morning to beat the crowds

Positano is busy all year round, so arriving early in the morning gives you the best chance of having the town to yourself.

One of the best times to go is at dawn, when the sun is just beginning to rise and the town is still quiet. You can take in the sweeping views, explore the narrow walkways and experience the peaceful atmosphere.

Plus, you can make it to the beach before the crowds arrive later in the day.

Visit the church of Santa Maria Assunta

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta in Positano, Italy is a stunning example of a structure that blends in perfectly with its natural surroundings. You will immediately see it when walking up the stairs to the center plaza.

The church was built in the 13th century and is nestled atop a cliff overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. The church is known for its beautiful frescoes, which were painted by an unknown artist in the 14th century.

The church is also home to a number of interesting artifacts, including a crucifix that is said to have been brought back from the Holy Land by a crusader.

Take a dip in the crystal clear waters

There is no better way to cool off in the hot Italian sun than to take a dip in the crystal clear waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea.

You can swim or even rent a boat to explore the coastline.

The beach also has plenty of restaurants, bars and shops for you to take in the local culture. But if sunbathing on the beach is more your speed, there are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants that line the promenade for you to enjoy.

Savor a limoncello by the pool at sunset

The best way to finish your day in Positano is to sit back and relax at dusk with a glass of the town’s signature drink: limoncello.

About Limoncello

My chilled bottle of limoncello at home!

This sweet and tangy liqueur has been produced and consumed in the area since the 1800s using local lemons. It’s best served chilled. (I keep my bottle of limoncello in the freezer for super-delicious after-dinner treat.) Visit one of Positano’s many liqueur stores to find the perfect blend. You will be able to sample many, so be sure to savor the tastes and choose one that may also feature a beautiful decorative decanter.

Then sit back, bask in the setting sun and take in the beauty of the Amalfi Coast.

Indulge in a seafood feast overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea

After a long day of exploring Positano, why not indulge in a mouth-watering seafood feast overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea.
