Each year on the night before Easter, the picturesque town of Vrontados on the Greek island of Chios transforms into a war zone as during Rouketopolemos the towns’ two churches battle each other in an explosion filled competition – with thousands of fireworks launched through the sky. The aim of the game is for each of the churches to try and hit the other’s bell tower and whoever gets the most hits wins.
