I absolutely love this Mexican Hot Chocolate on a cold winter day!
There’s something incredibly comforting about a warm, creamy cup of chocolate, especially when it comes with a little kick. Long before hot chocolate became a sweet, milky treat, it originated in ancient Mesoamerica, where cacao was prized by the Maya and Aztec civilizations. Back then, chocolate was often enjoyed as a spiced beverage, flavored with chili and warming spices rather than sugar.
This modern take pays homage to those roots by blending rich chocolate with cinnamon and a hint of cayenne for gentle heat. The result is a drink that’s smooth, cozy, and just spicy enough to keep things interesting. It comes together in minutes, making it perfect for chilly evenings, holiday gatherings, or anytime you want a mug of something comforting with a bold twist.
